Voters, Policymakers and the Economy: an Analysis of the Portuguese Case

Research project funded by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (POCTI/ECO/1999/32609)

Objectives

The main objective of this Project is to determine if Portuguese voters hold political entities/parties responsible for the evolution of the economy.

It also tries to determine if:

1) voters evaluations of economic performance are prospective or retrospective;

2) voters hold incumbents responsible for the macroeconomic situation of the country or for their personal conditions;

3) if the evaluations of incumbents’ performance takes into account their ideology and support at the Parliament.

 

Funding: 30 000 euros (Ref: POCTI/1999/ECO/32609)

 

Project's duration: December 2000 to March 2002
